Walk # 251 January 4th 2017 A chilly walk along the Colquitz River
The walking group set out from behind the Montana restaurant at Tillicum Mall to walk along the Colquitz River path. The path was icy in places. Weather was gorgeous with sunny skies, but cold. Not much wind along the path whereas the rest of Victoria has been enduring hurricane-type winds since Sunday morning Jan.1. We walked across Interurban road, followed the river and ended up in a playground with swings, teeter-totter, a jeep to play in and other childhood stuff. No kids around though. Back to the cars and onto the Gorge Pointe pub for lunch where parking spots were difficult to find.

Walk # 252 January 11th 2017 Vic West from Banfield Park to Selkirk Bridge
The CAMRAmblers met at Banfield park in Vic West on a blustery and cold day. The temperature didn't get above 0 celcius. We walked through the park and down to the path that leads to the Selkirk Bridge. It was a clear and sunny day despite the cold weather. As we crossed the bridge the wind gradually lessoned, and by the time we were by the Gorge Rowing Club wharf the wind had dissapeared. We walked as far as we could on the shoreline path and then turned back and crossed the bridge again. On the way back we walked along the Authur Curry Road and took Raynor Ave. back to Banfield park. We drove out to the 4 Mile Pub for lunch.

Walk # 253 January 18th 2017 Maynard Park to Finnerty Cove and back
The weather looked stormy and wet before the walking group started our walk today, but as usual the rain stopped almost completely. For most of the walk we didn't even use our umbrellas. Starting off at Maynard park we walked up to Hobbs Street and through the long lane that leads through to Frank Hobbs School. We crossed the school grounds and followed Haro Road across Arbutus and followed Haro road all the way to the
part of Haro road that branches to the left. At the very end of the road there is a beach access path that takes you to the rocky waterfront. A short scramble across the rocks to the roofed shelter at the entrance of Finnerty Cove. A path leads into the Queen Alexandra Centre grounds. We found a brick path to the left side of the main path that crosses a bridge and leads into the water park area of the centre. This looks like it would be a fun place for the children in the warm summer months. We walked up to Arbutus Road and crossed into the Haro Woods trails. The trail we took took us up to Suttton place. We walked back through the Hobbs school grounds and took the lane back to our cars at Maynaard park. It was a nice 4.25k walk that took one hour.

Walk # 254 January 25th Windsor Park to Anderson Hill Park loop walk
Today's walk was a fairly big group. The weather was cool, but no rain so I think everybody enjoyed this part of South Oak Bay. There are a lot of interesting old homes along the streets we walked. Some small cottages and some huge mansions. The view from up on the heights of Anderson hill are always interesting. A lovely lunch at the Ross Bay Pub afterwards was delicious and the service was quick. A good walk for sure!

Walk # 255 February 1st 2017 Wenche leads a walk in Gordon Head
On a bright sunny but very chilly day the CAMRAmblers walked through much of Gordon Head following Wenche through residential streets and many laneways that none of us knew were there. The sky was blue and cloudless and the sun was bright, but the cold wind was biting. Nevertheless, we all had a good walk and enjoyed the good exercise and fellowship.

Walk # 256 February 15th 2017 To Moss Rock Park from Cook Street
The stormy wet weather cleared up for just enough time for this days walk. In fact we didn't have even a drop of rain for our over four kilometer walk. The route to and from Moss Rock Park has lots of well kept vintage homes. The view of Juan De Fuca Straight from the summit is good too and we watched freighters heading out to the Pacific. At the Beagle Pub our server Susan had our tables ready and I think that everybody had a tasty lunch. Here are Terry's photos
Walk # 257 February 22 2017 Dallas Road walk to Breakwater and back
It was a fairly nice day to do a walk along the waterfront from the Harrison Yacht Pond to the Ogden point breakwater and back. We stopped at a little marker beside a group of trees just past the pond to learn about a little girl who died in 1872 of smallpox after voyaging to Victoria on a Princess steamer. The quarantine house used to be on Dallas road in those days and she is buried near the marker. Then we continued on to the breakwater and walked out to the end and back. it looked like the Westshore was getting some rain, but we stayed nice and dry. After the walk we made our way to the James Bay Inn for lunch. The parking lot was full and we had to drive all the way up to the Beacon Hill park area to find parking.

Walk # 258 March 1st. 2017 A Reay Creek Park & Peter Grant Park loop
The CAMRAmblers went out to near the Victoria International Airport this time and walked down through the Reay Creek Park to Peter Grant park and then through the neighbourhood going northward to Ocean Avenue at the edge of the airport. We had a nice walk along Reay creek and adjoining parks with tall trees all around. The creek was flowing. Weather was cloudy, but our fairy rain-mother waved her magic wand so we had no rain on the walk. At the end of the walk we found ourselves outside Mary’s café/pub on Canora road and the majority decided to have lunch there instead of the Prairie Inn.

Walk # 259 March 8th 2017 Walking the V&S rail trail from Bear Hill Road
The CAMRAmblers walk this day was along the old railway bed of the Victoria & Sidney Railroad on the west side of Elk lake that was shut down in 1919. We started from the parking lot that is located along Bear Hill Road along the side of the lakeshore. From there we walked south for about 30 minutes, and that was just over two kilometers, by the signage along the trail. At that point we turned around and walked back to our starting point to prepare for driving to the lunch destination at the Crooked Goose Bistro.

Walk # 260 March 15th 2017 Fairfield walk - 3 Parks & 3 Notable People
We walked through Robert J Porter Park next to the Sir James Douglas School and learned about who he was, then walked over to the Ross Bay Cemetery, which is also designated as a park. We stopped briefly at the grave of the Carr family. Then we found the grave and marker for Nellie Cashman a historic pioneer woman who was a gold rush miner throughout the northwest. Lastly we walked over to Hollywood park to visit the stone fountain that honours Dr. Fred Harling who was killed trying to rescue a pair of drowning victims off of Foul Bay in a storm. Walking out the back of the park we took Brooke Street back to our starting place.
