Walk #60 December 5th, 2012 Oak Bay Loop
We met at the Oak Bay Marina parking lot and walked up to the newly opened Oak Bay Beach Hotel to make reservations for lunch. We were told that they don't take reservations, so we told then that we would be back at 12:15pm with 15 persons for lunch. Our walk went down through the Victoria Golf Course and up into Anderson Hill Park via a short street at the south end of the golf course. After admiring the view from Anderson Hill we followed some trails down to Island road and walked back towards Windsor park before turning off at Margate Street to arrive back at the Snug. They didn't save any room for our group, so we went back to our cars and drove to the Penny Farthing Pub where they accommodated our large group (13) in the back patio area. We had a nice lunch and some good ales.

Walk #61 December 12th, 2012 Juan de Fuca Chip Trail
We were lucky to have another dry Wednesday to get in a final walk of the year for the group. There had been some storm damage to the timber in the forest part of the walk and the trail was built on fresh gravel for a way. Soon the chip path lead around the golf course and over towards the Lacrosse court, the Cycle Cross course and the Veledrome. In the forest we noticed the Wild Times tree-top adventures course. We finally we arrived back behind the recreation centre. This walk took about 50 minutes. We went to the Six Mile pub for lunch. It looked nice decorated for the holidays.

December 13, 2012 CAMRAmblers 2nd Annual Christmas Party
"Sir Terry" being knighted by "Her Majesty"
John and Wenche outdid themselves on Thursday, December 13 as hosts of our 2nd annual Christmas potluck party. Their home was beautifully decorated and they provided more than their share of food to the potluck table, including a special and delicious Norwegian dessert (featuring a decadent amount of sugar and almonds, cooked in rings and stacked in a cone shape). Santa John arrived as well bearing hand-crafted trophy gifts for all the members there. The weeks he spent planning, sourcing and creating these customized gifts were so much appreciated!
One of the highlights of the evening was the arrival of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and her Royal Guard Nigel, on a special mission to read a royal proclamation and to knight Terry as Knight of the CAMRAmblers. What an honour! Claudia is now to be addressed as "Lady Claudia", but assuredly not as Lady of the Knight! As part of this royal visit, Her Majesty the Queen took time to share the history of the Royal Wave, and teach us all how to do it properly. Lord Merv and Lord Larry got targeted to don extra sets of royal pearls, and were good sports to tolerate the accompanying ribbing and innuendos. Thanks to Lois and Judy for sharing their talents with us!
Thanks to all who attended and contributed such delicious food for our dinner. We are truly grateful to have such wonderful friends. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to more CAMRAmbler walks starting again in January.

December 19, 2012 CAMRAmblers Lunch at the Wardroom, CFB Esquimalt
On tour of CFB Esquimalt Wardroom
Thanks to David and Marion Freeman for organizing and hosting this last minute luncheon for our walking group, and for the tour of the Wardroom facility. I know that the large group of walkers that turned out really enjoyed the lunch and camaraderie. The Christmas decorations were gorgeous, and we never tire of the views of our outstanding west coast scenery out the large picture windows, even at this time of year when the skies are grey and water is dripping from the railings! Dave, your knowledge of military history is immense and thanks for sharing some of it with us and leading the tour.
Merry Christmas everyone!
